Hi, I’m Tom Bowden and I’m your Community Officer for 2018/19. I’m 22 years old and was born in Hull, however I now live in a small town in Lancashire called Chorley. I studied Sports Promotion and Marketing at the University of Huddersfield before graduating in July. I was also an active member of the Rugby League club during my time at University, Captaining the club in the 2015/16 season.
This will be my 5th year in Huddersfield and at the University and I love it now more than ever! In my role as Community Officer I will be working tirelessly on creating volunteering opportunities, charity fundraising and helping you students become more employable. I can’t wait to continue with all the work I did last year!
Create a platform where students can hold their accommodation accountable and challenge value for money through a termly forum of Halls reps.
Initiatives will include reaching Student Parents and improving our volunteering offer in Kirklees and in commuter towns locally.
In town centre bars to increase awareness of how to report incidences of sexual harassment, and create a greater sense of safety and security within the student body.
Facilitate a Pride event that celebrates Huddersfield’s LGBTQ+ community, whilst integrating the student body and local residents.
