Tom Bowden: Community

Hi, I’m Tom Bowden and I’m your Community Officer for 2018/19. I’m 22 years old and was born in Hull, however I now live in a small town in Lancashire called Chorley. I studied Sports Promotion and Marketing at the University of Huddersfield before graduating in July. I was also an active member of the Rugby League club during my time at University, Captaining the club in the 2015/16 season.

This will be my 5th year in Huddersfield and at the University and I love it now more than ever! In my role as Community Officer I will be working tirelessly on creating volunteering opportunities, charity fundraising and helping you students become more employable. I can’t wait to continue with all the work I did last year!

My Objectives

Halls Reps are in place in Castings, Oldgate, Aspley and Saw Mill. 2 international students reps.

Various events have been held to welcome students such as tea parties.

A new student parent society has been set up.

We’re now involved in Town Centre development conversations.

5 bars are currently running Ask For Angela. It is now a Huddersfield Pubwatch initiative. In talks with Kirklees Council regarding expanding it further.

We're holding a master planning event in January with potential stakeholders. A provisional date for the event has been set as 1/2nd of June 2019.
