What is Fencing?

Fencing has been contested at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. It involves sword fights of up to 15 hits using modern Olympic weapons. The foil is a precise point weapon and fencers must hit the torso only to score a hit. The Epee is a point weapon with a larger guard to protect your whole body as fencers must hit anywhere to score. And finally the Sabre, derived from a cavalry weapon is a cut and thrust sword. Fencers can score with the blade as well as the tip and must hit above the waist.
