The University of Huddersfield Bhangra Society aims to celebrate and educate the cultural heritage and history of the art form of Bhangra. Open to all abilities, our Bhangra dance class is a great way to improve your health as well as make new friends.
We hold two regular classes each week:
The first class takes place on Monday's at 7:00 - 8:00pm in studio 2, in the University Sports Hall. Led by Hardeep Shaota, who undertook a Masters-By-Research (MA) degree, exploring the history of Bhangra; and has also authored the much-acclaimed book, Bhangra: Mystics, Music and Migration. He is the founder of both the 'World Bhangra Council', a global organisation that brings together its member states to celebrate the art form of Bhangra and 'World Bhangra Day', an event in which like-minded Cultural Ambassadors from around the world take part in shared global performances in unison.
Our second class takes place on Wednesday at 6:15 - 7:15 in Phipps Hall, Creative Arts Building. Led by Chaanan Sond, also a professional Bhangra Dancer, with many years of experience. He aims to bring new contemporary styles of Bhangra to the team choreography, as well as refining basic skills for those wanting to learn Bhangra and who are new to the art-form.
We also have regular social activities for everyone led by our Social and Events co-ordinator, Avi Singh.
We now invite you to take part in these exciting classes and Bhangra celebrations.
