Allotment and Gardening Society

  • Harvest hud 260x260

The Allotment and Gardening Society (formerly known as HarvestHud) is a student-led project based on a large allotment at Storthes Hall Student Village.

Our aim is to build, maintain and develop the allotment for years to come, whilst growing delicious fresh produce to be shared out amongst the team. We meet every Sunday throughout the year to come together in the great outdoors and tend our plants.

We also have a large focus on promoting good mental health. The allotment is a space where people can learn together how to manage the land, without any previous knowledge required. It is well documented that time spent in nature, getting your hands dirty, boosts mood and alleviates anxiety, so come along and spend some time in the fresh air!

This society is for people who:

  • Enjoy spending time outdoors and aren’t afraid to get a little mucky
  • Want to work collaboratively to achieve something brilliant
  • Have an interest in learning how to grow fresh fruit and vegetables all year round

What this society can offer you:

  • Opportunity to improve your mental health and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of how to grow your own food and become more self-sufficient
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills, confidence and teamwork

If this sounds like something you might want to come along to, you can join us for one of our many events throughout the year, drop one of the Committee Members an email, or contact us at
