Why stand?

Because it's for you!

You can stand no matter who you are. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been super involved in the Students’ Union before, and you don’t have to be an undergraduate or from the UK – all you have to be is a member of the Students’ Union. If you’re not sure about whether you can run, just come and ask us!

It's a once-in-a-lifetime job

Each year only five Huddersfield students will be elected as Officers. This is an opportunity that most students won’t get. As an Officer you will lead the Students’ Union and its close to 20,000 members for the year, making lasting changes to improve the lives of students. Many Officers call it the best time of their life and there really is no other job in the world like it!

Make student life better

Here at the Union, we aim to make student life better. As an Officer, you will be at the heart of everything we do. Whether that’s leading our sports teams into competition with other Universities, leading on mental health campaigns, or improving the quality of feedback on essays – you will be at the forefront:  representing students, setting the agenda and working with staff at the Union to turn your ideas into a reality.

The Students’ Union has helped to make loads of changes, here’s just a few:

  • Lecture capture
  • Free sanitary products available for students in the SU
  • Getting University Square redeveloped

If you want to be involved in making more great changes to student life, this role is definitely for you.

Developing youl

Being an SU Officer is a great opportunity to develop your skills. Through the role, you’ll get access to loads of great training opportunities, and the level of work you undertake will really help you to develop your skills in a whole range of areas.

What if I don't win?

Even if you don’t win, chances are you’ll still learn loads from the election experience. We help you every step of the way with digital images to use in your social media and for print, you’ll get training, and hone your skills in communication, campaigning, planning and budgeting! Not only that, but the things you talk about during your campaign are likely to still make an impact – your ideas will still be heard. Beyond this, you’ll meet loads of people during the election campaign and could well make some friends for life.
