We almost can't believe it... For the third year running, the Varsity Cup is staying in Huddersfield!
This year was Varsity's 30th anniversary, so it had to be a big one. What we weren't expecting was for the competition to come right down to the final match, with everything hanging on the final face-off: our Rugby Union men's team, the Sharks, against the Bradford Rams - exactly the same circumstances under which we won the Varsity Cup back from Bradford three years ago!
Congratulations to every single team and individual who competed - you gave your all, and it really showed. We couldn't be more proud of our Sports Clubs today! And a huge thank you also goes to every single member of the HSU community and supporter who turned out for the events and made noise for the teams, and even to those who couldn't be there but showed support through social media. It made a huge difference to our teams to know that Huddersfield was behind them.
You can check out the results for all the individual fixtures here, and we're uploading all our pics and highlights from the last few days - check them out on our Facebook pages @HuddersfieldSU and @HSUGetInvolved.
But for now, the final thank you comes from our Activities Officer, Jake, for the phenomenal team spirit he saw in both players and fans during his final Hud Varsity. "It's an unbelievable feeling to see out my time as Activities Officer unbeaten at Varsity," Jake says, "and it really was the biggest and best one yet. What a way to mark 30 years of competition! The rivalry was great and I was pleased to see Huddersfield and Bradford students in such good spirit - and good numbers - especially for the final fixture. Thank you to everybody that gave it everything for the overall win!"
Next year morale should be high for our new Activities Officer, Lucy French, to hopefully carry us through to a fourth win and keep the Cup at home!
