One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and three out of four suicides are men. These figures are shocking, and you can help stop it!
Last year the Rugby League Club grew some fantastic facial fuzz to raise over £250 for the Movember Foundation, a charity formed to 'stop men dying too young'. I'm really pleased to announce the Rugby League Club are at it again this November (myself included) and the we're eager for more support!
If you want to get involved, there are a couple of different ways you can support Movember.
First (if you can) get growing your moustache! Get sponsorship from friends and family, and use it as a talking point to raise awareness of men's health issues - both mental and physical.
Secondly, this year the Movember Foundation are trying something new... In the UK, we lose 60 men every hour to suicide. That's one man every minute. So throughout November, the Movember Foundation are encouraging you to ask friends, family and anyone else you can think of to sponsor you running/walking 60km. Maybe you don't want to do it all in one go, or would like to team up with others (are you in a Sports Club or Society?) to cover the 60km this month. As long as you're raising money and awareness, we don't care!
You can set up your own Movember page at Movember.com, or come and speak to me in our Students' Union - that's Floor 5, Student Central. You can't miss me; just look out for the moustache!
Don't forget, if you're struggling you should always seek help. You can visit our Advice Centre in the Students' Union (Floor 5, Student Central) and you can also contact them here. You can also get free support with your mental health and wellbeing through Big White Wall - just register using your University email address.
