The Students’ Union and the University have come together to create some amazing events this Inclusion Week that focus on breaking down the barriers to women, disabled people, and those who identify as LGBT+ and BAME. Check out all the free events going on this week:

Monday 9 March 2020 - International Women’s Day – Inspirational Women

12.15pm – 1.15pm, OA4/01

Panel discussion to hear the experiences and career journeys of some of our inspirational women leaders:

Professor Christine Jarvis - Director of Art, Design and Architecture

Professor Adele Jones, Professor of Social Work and None in Three Research Centre Director

Rebekah Smith, Chief Executive Officer (Student’s Union)

Dr Georgina Blakeley, Director of Teaching, Learning and Student Experience

Tuesday 10 March 2020 - Charlie Martin’s Race to the Top

12.15pm – 1.15pm, Phidias Lab (Barbara Hepworth Building)

One woman’s story of bravery, ambition & self-belief.

Charlie Martin is a British racing driver who is on her way to becoming the first transgender driver to compete in the Le Mans 24hr. Join us in listening to her inspirational talk about her journey of transition and overcoming barriers to success.

Wednesday 11 March 2020 - Breaking Barriers: BAME Leadership, Talent and Inclusion

12.15pm – 1.15pm, Heritage Quay (3rd Floor Schwann Building)

Barbara Kasumu has a wealth of experience working in BAME representation and is currently the Director of Membership, Talent and Inclusion for the National Union of Students (NUS). Join us in learning all about her experiences in championing equality, diversity and inclusion, followed by an informal workshop led by our BAME Ambassadors and University staff.

Thursday 12 March 2020 - Stranger on the Bridge: with Mental Health Campaigner Jonny Benjamin MBE

12.15pm – 1.15pm, OA4/01

Award-winning media influencer and mental health campaigner, Jonny Benjamin MBE, is best known for his campaign #FindMike, which searched for the stranger who talked him out of taking his own life in 2008. He’ll be joining us to talk about his own mental health journey in an attempt to destigmatize mental ill-health and motivate others to seek support.

Friday 13 March 2020 - Meet your Networks

12.00pm – 13.00pm, Schwann Building Atrium (Level 4)

Representatives from the University’s Staff and Student Networks will join in the Schwann Atrium as well as colleagues from Wellbeing and Disability Services and Occupational Health to conclude the University’s Inclusion Week.

Our current networks include the following:
