Dear students in DIGS accommodation,
Many of you got in touch with us as the Officers at Huddersfield Students’ Union to express your frustration at the fact that the approved University accommodation provider, DIGS, has only offered a 50% refund to students who are not returning to their accommodation this term.
We have written to Bob Cryan, the Vice Chancellor, to highlight that DIGS is the only large Halls provider in Huddersfield that is not offering a full refund and that as the University’s “preferred, recommended and approved” supplier the University is accountable to students for making sure they do not suffer financially by choosing this accommodation.
The letter and the can be found at the bottom of this page and we have been told that “We have begun a dialogue with DIGS to raise the issue of student disquiet about its approach, and are awaiting a reply."
As a Students’ Union, we are reconsidering our current and future relationship with DIGS, and will make a statement about that in the coming weeks. We will continue to lobby the University to respond to this situation in a way that puts students first.
Please join us by personally writing to the University on this issue and we will continue to keep you updated. Sign up to our campaign online, and register your disappointment that the Univesrity aren't doing more to support students in DIGs.
