Is there a project you’re needing help with? Maybe there’s something you’d like to change, a campaign you want to start on campus or a cause you want to fundraise for? The SU wants to hear about your ideas and help you deliver them!

Across the year we’re looking to employ 20 students on our new-for-2016 Student Leadership Fund – we’ll pay, support and train you to deliver a project alongside your studies here at University. We want to empower our students to make the change they want to see and reach out to those we normally don’t connect with through the academic year.

You don’t need loads of experience or highly developed project management skills – we just want people with passion and a simple, great idea. We can train you on project planning, objective setting and leadership throughout the programme, and the SU will pay you for up to 200 hours’ work (which is around £2,000 for the year!). We’ll also give you £300 to fund your project so long as it and your performance meet key criteria, such as engaging with at least 100 students.

What do I need to do?

Write a pitch of no more than 750 words (answering the key criteria listed below) and submit it. If you’re successful, we’ll invite you in to pitch your ideas for consideration. If you’re unsuccessful or unable to participate this time around then don’t worry, we’ll be recruiting for throughout the year and you can apply more than once!

Key criteria to address when writing your application:

  • What do you want to achieve? Why?
  • Why do you think the SU should support you?
  • What skills do you hope to develop through delivering your project?
  • How can other students engage with your project?

I want to get involved but I haven't got an idea nailed yet!

We’re not just looking for people with a great idea – we’re also looking for people who are passionate and driven. Have a look at the attached PowerPoint to see some things that have been done elsewhere to get you thinking!
