► STARS

STARS is the Student Training and Recognition Scheme – our way of rewarding you for the hard work you put into getting involved with a student activity or helping us listen to the student voice, and making sure you leave university equipped with the extra skills you need to get ahead in an increasingly competitive job market.

It is never too early to start thinking about how you will make yourself stand out from the crowd when you look for a job after graduating. Gone are the days when a good degree alone would virtually guarantee you a job in your chosen field – today’s employers will be looking for evidence that you have taken the opportunity to get involved with university life outside of your studies, and will want you to demonstrate how you can apply extra skills you have learnt to your future employment.

Whether you get involved as a student rep, Union Councillor, volunteer or club and society member, STARS offers you a range of training sessions and workshops designed to develop you both as a person and in your role as an active student – all at no cost to you whatsoever! STARS will also help you keep a record of your involvement and reflect on your experiences, so that you have a ready made portfolio that you can show to future employers or transfer to your CV.

Keep an eye on this page for dates of training sessions and workshops, or just call into the iZone and ask about STARS. Alternatively, email John Goodwin on j.goodwin@hud.ac.uk
