► H-Karts

Hi, Thanks for checking out H-KARTS the Huddersfield University Motorsport and Karting Team.

So what do we get up to?

Racing

The club was founded in order to gain Huddersfield an entry into the British Universities Karting Championship (BUKC) and last year we competed in four rounds at circuits around the UK gaining valuable experience that we will be able to make full use of in this year’s Championship.

The BUKC is the pinnacle of our racing activities but we also have a deal with a local karting circuit (Pole Position in Leeds) that allows us to have up to 2 hours karting for just £25 per person including transport from the SU, the first of these events is planned to take place on the 28th of September only two weeks after freshers and if you sign up with the club at freshers we will discount it even further!

Once you have got the hang of indoor karts you can then graduate to testing the clubs 2-stroke racing kart which has similar performance to the karts used in the BUKC.

Beyond that there is the BUKC Rookie championship which is reserved for drivers who have never competed in kart racing before and is an ideal place to prepare for the next stage which is a place on the Huddersfield BUKC team.

When we’re just waiting

Steve McQueen once said that “Racing is life, anything before or after is just waiting”

When we’re waiting for our next race the club likes to keep itself busy by visiting as many racing factories, car manufactures and anything else we think might be worth a look around, as we can. Last year we visited Prodrive the makers of the Mini WRC car and the home of Aston Martin Racing. We also attended talks by senior people in Aston Martin, Bentley, Jaguar-Land Rover, Rolls-Royce and McLaren. As well as hosting a talk by Daniel Jubb the designer of the rocket for the 1000mph bloodhound SSC land speed record car

This year we hope to repeat our visit to Prodrive as well as going on tours of Red Bull Racing and Team Lotus as well as several others that are in the pipeline.

There ain’t no party like an F1 party

Motorsport has a reputation for attracting people who race hard in the day and celebrate even harder when they win, H-KARTS will be looking to continue this tradition by organising nights out for its members in Huddersfield and beyond as well as social trips to race meetings and our end of exam end of year big trip down to Goodwood for the Festival of Speed known as Glastonbury for Petrolheads.

I hope that has wetted your appetite sufficiently and we look forward to welcoming you to our club and we look forward to seeing you at the freshers fayre.
