► OCEAN Nepal

The Orphan and Children Education Association of New Nepal (OCEAN Nepal) was established in 2005 and is a non-profit and non-government organization. OCEAN Nepal, as a NGO, aims to provide free education and health care to poor and helpless children, and to equip them with the necessary skills to make them self-reliant. They encourage development through the use of local resources and knowledge, which leads to financial independence and self-sustainability. Currently, OCEAN Nepal is managing an orphanage in the capital city of Nepal and has as its aim to extent through the whole of Nepal . The orphanage is currently providing a home for 10 orphans.

Their volunteer program is to volunteer in their orphanage. As a volunteer at Ramro Sathi you will be placed either at the orphanage itself or with a local host family and you will spend most of your time with the children assisting them with their day to day routines. The children are usually between the ages of six to thirteen and will have a basic understanding of English. Your role as a volunteer is to care for and encourage the children as well as helping them with their schoolwork. You will teach them general life skills including health and sanitation. There will also be opportunities for you to organize trips out, play games, or arrange informal classes in music, painting, singing and dancing and all the other activities that children enjoy.

They are looking for volunteers who could preferably spend at least one month with the children. They can provide accommodation with a host family or with children in the building. To find out more about the organisation, look at www.oceannepal.org
