The Ultimate Frisbee team had their first ever tournament last weekend; two days, eighteen teams, lots of Ultimate!
Going into the tournament we were not expecting much, this was the first time we had ever played together against other universities. The tournament was especially for beginners, so the team on the pitch was made up of one experienced player and four beginners.
We started in a pool of six teams; Holy Cross, Phat ‘Eds 1, Bangor, Lincoln, Halcyon 3 and us. As this was our first tournament we didn’t expect much, but started with a 7 -7 draw with Holy Cross. We then had to play the two best teams in the group, Bangor and Phat ‘Eds 1, losing to both. After a decent gap during the day, we came out a new team against Lincoln, taking our first ever tournament win. Our last game also ended in defeat, but due to our draw and victory, we ended up 12th going into Sunday.
On Sunday, everything that we could have improved on Saturday we executed very well. We played STUFT and Halcyon 5 in order to challenge for 9th place overall. The team played fantastically considering we were all tired and slightly unfit due to the summer break, and we won both games. The 10th vs 9th play-off was our last game, which we won, just managing to creep into top half.
Our whole team is really proud to have finished in the top half and with another tournament this weekend we are looking to improve further and challenge the higher placed teams.
