► Netball Club

Huddersfield University Netball is an extremely popular sports team within the university, there are two teams who both compete in BUCS Northern conference. As well as being passionate about the sport they play, the team are just as fired up off court where they enjoy the sports team social night out every Wednesday after a game. This usually includes crazy fancy dress and plenty of alcohol, to either celebrate or commiserate the game. The girls train every Tuesday evening from 5-7 and games are played for the league and the cup game, every Wednesday afternoon, home and away.

Tour is also a massive part of the netball tradition at Hudds Uni, the girls go abroad to compete against other universities and generally to have a great time, again including fancy dress and plenty of alcohol. Last year 09/10 was the first year the whole uni went on tour together and after hearing and seeing what a fantastic time everyone had, this will undoubtedly happen for years to come.

All the sports teams have a great bond meaning there is plenty of support for home games and ‘Varsity’ played against Bradford every year. Another new event this year, which we hope to hold annually, was sharing an awards night with the Rugby Union team. All had an excellent night and their efforts and memorable moments on and off court throughout the year, were recognised.

So, as mentioned earlier, training will take place every Tuesday evening 5-7 in the University Sports Hall which is on the roundabout down the road from the front of Uni. Then if you play a game on any week, for home games we meet half an hour before the game starts in the changing room of the sports hall, then for away games, we meet in the su half an hour before the coach is due to pick us up. You will be told the time in training the night before. Then the fun part, a wednesday night out… the times and places will be confirmed in the first training session and on the Facebook friend page.

As a new member to the netball team, there is no specific equipment you are required to bring.

There is no specific experience level you need to come to training on a tuesday night and join in. As well as it being a chance to play netball, exercise and improve your skill, it's also a chance to make new friends, have a laugh and discuss fancy dress for the wednesday night out!! In other words, everybody's welcome :)

To join up properly, come down to the first training session and then towards the end, there will be some info given out as well as a chance to ask any questions. There will also be a link on the hudds uni netball friend page on Facebook, explaining what to do. There's a £30 charge which covers the cost of our coach, insurance to play in the sports hall and many more things which benefit yourselves throughout the year.

On a Tuesday we are trained by Joy, who is a highly qualified netball coach, she trains people of all ages from school level, to adults. She is also qualified to referee. Everyone gets along really well with Joy and we all have a laugh, although she will make sure you play to the best the best standard you can each session.
