FAQ:

So what’s it all about?

As a group we try to show aspects of medieval life, from the battle fields of medieval England to the merchant houses, and villages we try and recreate the clothing, crafts and equipment of the 15th century while exploring some of the techniques and skills from the period.

What do you do?

On a weekly basis we run training sessions with some of the weapons from the period, fighting with some of the equipment from the period, we train both in Huddersfield and in Bradford. As well as this we hold regular craft sessions to focus on and try out some of the skills from the period, the type of things we do depends on what people are interested in.

Fighting? Isn’t that a little dangerous?

Although we use steel weapons they are blunted and we only train to contact and not to injure, there is a lot of respect for safety in the group and you will be taught by members with over a decade of experience in how to fight safely.

Do you do archery?

The war bow or long bow was a big part of most medieval battles and we reflect that in our group, although we do not have the space to train with a bow every week we do hold regular training sessions at weekends where we are able to set up an archery range and members can try their hand at archery with a medieval bow.

What if I don’t fancy the combat side of things?

That’s fine we have a lot of very active members interested in crafts covering almost anything you want, from fabric crafts to cooking to wood carving and blacksmithing if you want to try it we can probably do it!

What equipment do it need?

To start with nothing, for the combat side of things the group holds a lot of protective equipment covering modern light weight gear for training to heavier medieval equipment for when we are away at events. For the craft side of things a lot of the time the group can provide the equipment for this as well working with you on a project to help and advise with materials and skills

So why should I join?

As part of the group you will get the chance to travel all over the country to castles, battle fields and medieval houses and be part of a bigger reenactment scene. Fight in pitched battles of over 1000 fighters or learn crafts from experts and discover new techniques for yourself. As well as that there is a really friendly social scene encompassing nights round camp fires or evenings chatting with like minded people
