► Part-time Officers

Part time officer roles are voluntary, although you will receive an attendance allowance for official meetings. The experience looks great on a CV and is a good way of getting stuck into something you are passionate about.

Charities Officer - Currently Vacant

Enthusiastic, passionate and game for a laugh? The role of the Charities officer requires you to work alongside external charities and the RAG (Raising And Giving) Committee and help raise money and awareness for your chosen charities.
You don’t need to be completely “right on” but it certainly helps to have some zest for charity work.

Disabilities - Michael Mattinson

It is the role of the Disabilities Officer to ensure students with disabilities are well represented and their opinions are reflected throughout the whole of the University. It’s your responsibility to ensure that disability provision is up to scratch and create relevant working groups where appropriate.

Environmental and Ethics - Adam Ingram

Is green your favourite colour??? Not that it really matters.... you will have the passion to save the planet and get everyone on board through awareness, campaigns and events – from saving the whale to ensuring recycling happens on campus... sound like your (reusable) bag?

International and European Students - Clive Simpson

You’re not expected to speak numerous languages with this one, although if you choose to learn ‘hello’ in a couple of them we’re sure it will go down well! You will be part of the International and European welcome party and work closely with the International Office within the University and be aware of any problems or concerns that face our overseas students.

LGBT - Jo Flunt

The main aspects for the Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Transgender officer is to ensure the implementation and development of Union policies on LGBT issues. You will be the representative for all LGBT students on the Union Council, plus offering support and advice to the LGBT Society.

Mature and Postgraduate Students - Irfan Raja

As the officer in this position you will need to understand what issues the mature and postgraduate students face, give them a student voice, and work alongside them and the schools within the University to meet their needs. You will also work with the Postgraduate Student Society.

Multi-cultural and Faith - Currently Vacant

By ensuring there is a clear policy within the Union for fighting racism, as well as recommendations on both race and religious issues, you are the Union representative for the different cultures and nationalities which make up the SU’s membership – a varied role which includes organising and encouraging activities at important times throughout the academic year.

Newspaper Editor - Ben Hall

An exciting role but one that requires going the extra mile to meet deadlines and chase others. You will work closely with the VP Communications Officer to ensure the student newspaper gets out on time. You are editorially independent of the SU and must have impartial views and be fair in reporting. Also you are the newspaper representative and will have the chance to report at local and national events and ceremonies as well as develop the interest and involvement of the other editors writing for the paper.

Part-time and Placements - Currently Vacant

You don’t need to be a part time or placement student but you will need to have an understanding of the issues they may face. It’s your responsibility to make sure these students’ are kept well informed and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Union Chair - Andy 'Frodo' Blunt

Another important role that does what it says on the tin – you are the Chair of the Union Council, which is the most important committee within the Students’ Union! The Council meets for a couple of hours each month and your role is to ensure that the Council runs smoothly and correctly.
