Claire Lishman 2003/2004 "I absolutely loved being Student Union President - I met some absolutely amazing and inspiring people who I am still friends with now, and I also learnt a great deal about myself. The main things I have taken with me from my experience have been vital skills that I now use in day to day life - leadership, teamwork, confidence, diplomacy and the ability to smooth out difficult situations! I was elected Student Union President in 2003 and the role has definitely stood me in good stead for life and work since then. Having it on my CV is something that is so important- it really makes you stand out from the crowd. I work in Press and PR in the Arts which is an extremely difficult field of work to get into, and I know that it was a large factor in getting my first job. I can't recommend highly enough the experience. It is such a positive and memorable part of my life." |

Martin Rix 2006/2007 “As a former President I would thoroughly encourage anyone interested to stand in the election. My term as President was, without a doubt, the most enjoyable and fulfilling year of my life. I had been involved with the Students' Union in a variety of capacities and this, for me, brought it all together. Having the opportunity to represent our members, take their concerns to the highest echelons of the University and, hopefully, make a real difference to their lives and university experience is something I will treasure forever.” |

Junaid Ejaz 2009/2010 “We all dream to complete studies and get a good job afterwards. One thing which can enhance your career prospects, other than getting a First, is without a shadow of doubt the experience you can gain from being an elected officer at the Students’ Union. Just imagine for a second: by mentioning the words of President or Vice President on your CV, you will surpass thousands of other candidates in the race for employment. For me, campaigning was the most lucrative feature of the job, you will get to meet thousands of people and it boosts your confidence to a sky high level. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity, fill in an application pack and never look back – trust me you will never regret it." |
