How to make the most of your Vote

UHSU elections use the Alternative Vote system that allows you to express votes for a number of different candidates, in order of preference. Initially, only your first choice (1) will be counted. However, if on the first count no candidate gains the required majority (50%+1), the candidate with the least votes is eliminated and the second-preference (2) votes of this candidate are then counted and added to the totals. This process is repeated until someone gets over 50%.

    So how should I Vote?

If you really only care about one candidate, and have no other preference, you should vote only (1) for them.

If you have a preference for who is elected should your first choice fail, you should express this with 2nd (2) and 3rd (3) choices until you have no further preference.
