► Top Tips for Dealing with Exam Stress

Anyone can suffer from exam stress but if you do feel that it is all getting too much, then some of the tips below may help you to deal with the pressure.
Top tips for dealing with exam stress:
-
Be organised. Set yourself a realistic timetable for revision and then try to stick to it. If you are well prepared it will help you to feel calmer and more confident.
-
Make sure well in advance that you have the right date, time and location of your exams.
-
Try to relax. Take time out from your revision to do something you enjoy and treat yourself for all your hard work.
-
Try to do a little bit of exercise as this can help to reduce stress and make sure that you are eating well and getting plenty of sleep.
-
Talk to your family and friends. Whilst you may feel that you are the only one worrying you will probably find that your friends are feeling exactly the same.
-
Go along to one of the University run relaxation sessions. These take place every Wednesday during term time between 12pm – 1pm in the Faith Centre.
-
Once you have done the exam try not to think about it or focus on where you think you may have gone wrong. It can increase your stress levels and stop you concentrating on the rest of your exams.
-
If the pressure of exams is getting too much for you and you feel that you are struggling to cope, talk to someone about it. The University Counselling Service can provide support on how to deal with the pressure of exams and offer drop in sessions and appointments for individual counselling. They can be contacted in one of the below ways.

If you feel that there are things in your personal life that may have affected your performance in any of your assessments, you should make your Department aware. They may be able to take this into consideration when marking your exams. You can find more details on the procedures for claiming extenuating circumstances through the ‘My Details’ section of the student web pages, in the Students’ Handbook of Regulations or by contacting the Students’ Union Advice and Information Centre.
