Set Up A New Group

So you’ve seen the long list of societies and sport clubs and you haven’t found what you were looking for? Don’t panic, you can always set up your own activity group with our support. There are a few simple steps you need to take to register your group with the Students’ Union.

Step One

Read our Student Activities Handbook it’s a useful guide with information about running your own group, which will explain how things work, what you can expect from us and what we expect from you.

Step Two

Download and complete the key documents required to register an activity group

  • Committee Notification Form - find at least two other students who would like to run the group with you and let us know who they are by returning this form.
  • Grant and Ratification Pack – it’s your chance to tell us who you are, what it is that you want to do and to request funding that will enable you to run your activities
  • Health and Safety Pack - complete it to the best of your knowledge and ability to ensure your members can be kept safe while taking part in your activities
Step Three

Send completed documents to the Student Activities Team at so your Grant and Ratification Pack can be considered by the Student Activities Executive. We will also request a one to one meeting to discuss your Health and Safety Pack while you await  SAE decision.

Step Four

While we process your application, start thinking about your webpage on the SU website. Your online presence is important as it will allow students to find out what your group is all about. Make sure to prepare description and a logo for your group as this way we will be able to get your page up and running as soon as your group has been ratified.

Feeling a bit stuck? Don’t! Get in touch with Student Activities Team or pop in to see us at the SU Help Desk on level 5 in Student Central.
